I don't believe they've set a date yet. I think both Xbox and PS are waiting to see what the other has in store
I'm pretty sure you'd be able to play the PS2 games in the PS3, as you can play the PS1 games in the PS2. It's just one feature you'd hope they'd continue along with.
Graphics look great. I already think graphics of today's computer games are awesome, and they just keep freaking me out more and more...

I heard that the in-game graphics are pretty much as good as the cut-screens of current computer games. That'd be something, now, having such awesome graphics...

They say that about every new console that comes out, that the in-game graphics are as good as the pre-rendeered stuff. Hell, they even say that whenever a new games comes out, they said it about Gran Turismo 4 and the scenery is very pretty, but no where near as good in game as pre-rendered.
Sony says that they DO intend to continue their tradition of newer consoles that are 100% backwards compatible. In other words, PS3 is SUPPOSED to be able to play PS1 and PS2 games.
Those graphics are awe-inspiring, and I'm putting away the pennies now so that I can buy one in 2009...
